Did you know that only 11% of students who failed 6th grade math go on to earn high school diplomas? Our goal is to help all Minnesota youth become proficient in math by the end of 8th grade and give them a better start to their futures. If you are passionate about education and math, join us and make a difference in the lives of elementary and middle school students. Become a Minnesota Math Corps tutor and help 4th-8th grade students build the core math skills needed to be successful 21st century learners. We’ll provide the training to get you started and ongoing coaching so you’ll be supported throughout your term of service.

    • Work with pairs of students (fourth through eighth grade) who need extra support with math during the school day. Tutors are trained to use a variety of scripted Minnesota Math Corps strategies, called interventions, to build students’ foundational math skills in numbers and operations. Tutors work with the same student pairs for a total of 90 minutes each week.
    • Conduct quick and easy math assessments regularly, and enter the student data into an online data system. Tutors review student data with their internal coach (site-based math specialist) to monitor the progress of each student and modify their intervention strategy to
    • meet each student’s needs.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all student data.
    • Attend three days of mandatory training prior to service with students and additional required training sessions throughout the year. Tutors receive the consistent support of a coach at their school. Some travel may be necessary to attend training.
    • Participate in school-sponsored activities such as book fairs and family nights.
